Purpose of the Job
Shoprite is looking for an ambitious and detail-oriented Trainee Manager to join the team and participate in structured Trainee Manager Programme. Under the guidance of the Branch Manager, you will be responsible for supporting the day-to-day operations of the store, with a strong focus on sales performance, customer experience, merchandising, stock management, cash control, staff support, and reporting.
Your goal is to help drive operational excellence and deliver an outstanding shopping experience for customers while developing the skills and leadership competencies needed to eventually manage a store independently.
Key Responsibilities
Sales & Customer Experience
- Drive daily sales and achieve store profit targets by executing divisional strategies
- Ensure customer service excellence through store appearance, merchandise display, product placement, and staff behaviour
- Handle customer complaints professionally, following company procedures
- Monitor and report on sales performance against daily targets
Operations & Stock Management
- Oversee stock management processes including inventory checks, stock rotation, and quality assurance
- Reduce stock loss by enforcing proper security, stock handling, and cash procedures
- Manage pricing accuracy and implement promotional activities
- Place merchandise orders and monitor stock replenishment
Financial & Administrative Duties
- Perform banking and cash reconciliation duties
- Prepare sales reports, monitor transactions, and maintain accurate records
- Support financial administration tasks, including inventory counts and transaction logs
- Ensure compliance with company standards on record-keeping, security, and reporting
People Management
- Assist with staff scheduling, performance management, and skills development
- Supervise daily staff activities and floor operations
- Promote a team culture that aligns with company values
Compliance & Maintenance
- Enforce health and safety policies in-store
- Ensure cleanliness, organisation, and maintenance of the trading premises
- Monitor compliance with all operational procedures and systems

Minimum Requirements
Essential:
- Grade 12 / Matric certificate
Desirable:
- A retail-related tertiary qualification
- FMCG experience in a retail environment

- Stock control and merchandising principles
