Introduction

Mintek is offering an exciting internship within the Advanced Materials Division (AMD). The successful candidate will support the development of groundbreaking solutions for water treatment and diagnostic tools for both infectious and non-communicable diseases by leveraging minerals as foundational building blocks. Key responsibilities will be to synthesize and characterize nanomaterials, integrate nanomaterials into advanced nanosystems, draft technical reports and manage project records, liaise with stakeholders to resolve project-related issues, and uphold strict safety, health, and environmental (SHE) standards while developing professional expertise.

Purpose of the Position

The purpose is to provide graduates with practical workplace experience, bridging the gap between academic theory and professional practice to enhance their long-term employability.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Investigations and Design:

  • Conduct nanomaterial synthesis and characterization.
  • Perform system integration and contribute to prototype design
  • Collaborate with the project team to produce accurate and actionable technical designs and reports.

Contract and Project Management Assistance

  • Support effective project management by tracking progress and maintaining detailed records.
  • Work closely with stakeholders to resolve issues and ensure compliance with safety, environmental, health, and regulatory standards.

Documentation and Reporting

  • Assist in the preparation of detailed progress reports to provide updates on technical activities, challenges, and achievements.
  • Document all observations and technical findings for reference and audit purposes.

Capacity Building and Skill Development

  • Leverage on technical learning opportunities to build expertise in health and environmental safety.
  • Collaborate with team members to develop innovative approaches for efficient project execution.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent (NQF level 7) degree in Chemistry/Chemical engineering.
  • Excellent academic record: 60% average
