Job Description

Are you passionate about building people’s power and strengthening grassroots democracy in South Africa? My Vote Counts (MVC) works to ensure everyone can participate meaningfully in democracy, with a focus on transparency, accountability and systems of change.

What You Will Gain

Practical organising experience through Democracy Dialogues and community-based engagements.
Skills in campaign development, research, strategy and mobilisation, including the Right to Recall campaign.
Exposure to coalition-building and work with civil society organisations, movements and community structures.
Experience in political education and creating accessible popular education materials.
Research and analysis skills on democratic accountability and participatory democracy.

Qualifications and Requirements

1–3 years’ experience in community organising, social movements or civil society work.
Undergraduate qualification in politics, sociology, community development, social work or related fields.
Clear commitment to social justice, people’s power and grassroots democracy.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, comfortable working with diverse communities.
Interest in South African politics, social movements and civil society.
Experience or willingness to learn facilitation and basic event coordination.
Able to work independently and in a small team.
Reliable, organised and attentive detail.
Basic IT skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, social media).
Willingness to travel for community engagements.
Proficient in English; other South African languages an advantage.
