Job Description

Are you passionate about building people’s power and strengthening grassroots democracy in South Africa? My Vote Counts (MVC) works to ensure everyone can participate meaningfully in democracy, with a focus on transparency, accountability and systems of change.

What You Will Gain

  • Practical organising experience through Democracy Dialogues and community-based engagements.
  • Skills in campaign development, research, strategy and mobilisation, including the Right to Recall campaign.
  • Exposure to coalition-building and work with civil society organisations, movements and community structures.
  • Experience in political education and creating accessible popular education materials.
  • Research and analysis skills on democratic accountability and participatory democracy.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • 1–3 years’ experience in community organising, social movements or civil society work.
  • Undergraduate qualification in politics, sociology, community development, social work or related fields.
  • Clear commitment to social justice, people’s power and grassroots democracy.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, comfortable working with diverse communities.
  • Interest in South African politics, social movements and civil society.
  • Experience or willingness to learn facilitation and basic event coordination.
  • Able to work independently and in a small team.
  • Reliable, organised and attentive detail.
  • Basic IT skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, social media).
  • Willingness to travel for community engagements.
  • Proficient in English; other South African languages an advantage.
