About the Role
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is continuously seeking Casual Merchandisers to join our strategic Talent Pool across various stores in the Eastern Cape. A talent pool allows us to build a network of skilled and pre-screened candidates who are well-suited for future job opportunities within Dis-Chem.
As a Casual Merchandiser, you will play a key role in maintaining Dis-Chem’s merchandising standards, ensuring shelves are fully stocked and neatly presented, while also delivering excellent customer service.
Minimum Requirements
Essential:
- Grade 12 / Matric
- Up to 6 months’ retail experience
- Computer literacy (MS Office)
- Willingness to work retail hours
Advantageous:
- 1 year or more of retail experience
Key Responsibilities
- Restock merchandise to maximize sales opportunities.
- Ensure all stock is correctly unpacked, stored, and displayed on shelves in a timely manner.
- Monitor sell-by dates and rotate stock on a FIFO basis.
- Report low, damaged, expired, or out-of-stock items to management.
- Assist with stock counting, general stocktaking, and maintaining accurate records.
- Follow store layouts, planograms, and Dis-Chem’s operating standards.
- Ensure shelves, displays, and products are always neat, clearly priced, and well-presented.
- Build and maintain attractive merchandising displays.
- Keep store areas clean, tidy, and well-organised, including storerooms.
- Assist with stock loading/unloading and back shopping when required.
- Provide friendly, helpful customer service and follow up on product queries.
- Assist in onboarding and training of new staff when necessary.
- Wear the correct uniform and name badge at all times.
- Minimise losses through careful handling of stock.
- Comply with Dis-Chem policies, procedures, SOPs, and health & safety standards.

Essential:
- Strong command of English (verbal and written)
- Professional and presentable appearance
- Excellent interpersonal and customer engagement skills
- Honest, trustworthy, and reliable
- Good time management and organisational skills
Advantageous:
- Bilingual abilities
- Knowledge of merchandising standards and the FMCG industry
- Product and category knowledge
- Ability to interpret ZMORE reports for stock control
- Vigilance in identifying and reporting suspicious activity
Special Conditions of Employment
- Must be willing and able to work flexible retail hours
- Physically fit to lift/move heavy stock in line with safety standards
- Reliable transport or residence close to store location
- Must be a South African citizen
- Clear credit and criminal record
