Payroll Officer

Job Purpose

The purpose of the Payroll Officer is to ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll to CEF and SANPC Refinery, processing employee tax and other statutory deductions and providing payroll data for reporting purposes and providing HR Administration support.

Minimum Qualification

  • A National Diploma (NQF 6) in Human Resource Management/Social Science/Administration or Finance.
  • 2-3 years of experience as a payroll officer.
  • Experience with SAGE 300 is desirable.

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Understanding of payroll reconciliations
  • Solid grasp of accounting principles
  • Understanding of Payroll reconciliations
  • Understanding of Accounting Principles
  • Understanding of regulations governing income tax, minimum wage, overtime, UIF and benefits
  • Understanding of pre-and post-tax deductions in terms of employee benefits
  • Understanding of HR processes as it relates to payroll
  • Proficiency in SAGE 300 (especially reporting)
  • Excel skills, Problem-solving skills & Numerical reasoning skills
  • Attention to details, Time Management, Reliability & Communication skills

Key Performcance Indicators

Payroll Processing

  • Accurately process payroll on a regular schedule
  • Calculate salaries, deductions and benefits, ensuring compliance with company policies and legal requirements.
  • Verify payroll data, including new employees, overtime, allowances.

Tax compliance

  • Ensure that employee taxes are calculated correctly and paid on time

Reporting and analysis

  • Generate payroll reports for management, including summaries payroll costs, leave liabilities
  • Provide payroll data for financial reporting and audits as required
  • Provide headcount and payroll data for budgeting purposes

Compliance 

  •  Comply with relevant payroll and HR policies and procedures

HR query assistance and employee records management

  • Maintain employee personal details, contracts, benefits information
  • Process and track leave requests, align with policy guidelines
  • Support onboarding process by coordinating the distribution and receipt of new engagement documentation
  • Coordinate and assist with employee HR queries to ensure timely resolution.
