2026 Astron Energy Engineering Bursary

The bursary scheme forms part of Astron Energy’s commitment to skills development, meaningful socio-economic transformation, and the country’s broader development agenda.

The sponsorship is a full-cost bursary that covers the following:

  • Full bursaries to attend ANY registered higher education institution
  • Tuition fees, textbooks, accommodation
  • Food and monthly stipends
  • Light-touch mentorship for developing essential skills imperative for personal and professional growth
  • On-going psycho-social support provided by Excel@Uni
  • Work Readiness Programme
  • Academic Support in the form of private tutoring

Required Qualifications

To Qualify you need to be studying a qualification in one of these:

Engineering Streams:

  • Chemical Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering (Light and Heavy Current)
  • Metallurgical Engineering
  • Industrial Engineering [Must be BSc or BEng, NOT BEng Tech]

ICT Streams:

  • Information Management
  • Data Engineering
  • Data Analytics
  • Data Architecture Data Science and Analytics (preference will be for Science and Engineering faculties, but all are welcome to apply)

Who Can Apply

  • Applicants must be South African Citizens, under 35 years of age.   
  • Applicants must be pursuing a FULL-TIME qualification (Degree, Honors, Masters, Etc)
    • The following qualification levels DO NOT QUALIFY: Diploma & Advanced Diploma
  • If the applicant’s parent/guardian is NOT AN Astron Energy employee:
    • They must be studying the FINAL-YEAR of their qualification in 2026 (or doing a 1-year postgrad qualification in 2026)
  • If the applicant’s parent/guardian IS AN Astron Energy employee:
    • They qualify to apply for the bursaru if they are in matric or gap-year in 2025; OR studying anywhere from 1st to final-YEAR of their qualification in 2026
  • Applicants must be pursuing their qualification-level for the first time (ie, not repeating a degree, honours, etc)
  • Applicants must be pursuing a qualification or intending to pursue a qualification at any tertiary institution registered with DHET and SAQA. (This includes private/community colleges and TVETS) 
  • Average academic performance for the last full academic year must be 70% or higher
